On July 24, Director of the Police College Lau Chi-wai was invited to share with the Efficiency Unit the Force's endeavour in adopting social innovation in both training and frontline work. Over 50 representatives from various bureaux/departments attended the event to exchange views on the matter.
The sharing session is built on the theme of "Co-creating Social Innovation with Communities". Social innovation is a novel way to solve a social problem and is generally considered more effective and sustainable than the existing solutions. It caters for the overall interests of the community instead of individual interests.
Currently, the Police College works hand in hand with Sham Shui Po District and Good Lab, a social venture, on a social innovation project - Project B Cop. Selected Inspectors and community stakeholders participate in a series of workshops and Community Lab. Through interviews, community visits and spending time with locals, they co-create innovative solutions to overcome policing challenges. By engaging these stakeholders, the Force gains wider community support while equipping the officers with new knowledge and experience to enhance policing effectiveness.
In addition to featuring the Force, the Efficiency Unit also invited overseas speakers from Mexico, Korea and the United Kingdom to share their experience in social innovation.
