Led by Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Siu Chak-yee, eight officers representing four Police staff associations, namely Superintendents' Association, Hong Kong Police Inspectors' Association, Overseas Inspectors' Association and Junior Police Officers' Association, visited the Queensland Police Service (QPS) in Australia between July 17 and 23.
On the first day of the visit, they met Deputy Commissioner (Regional Operations) of QPS Peter Martin and Mr Siu thanked him for his assistance in facilitating the visit. Both pledged to make further endeavours in strengthening co-operation between the two police authorities in the years to come.
One of the Force delegates, Senior Inspector of the Staff Relations Group Sze Cheuk-wa, said that their programme covered visits to the Operations Support Command, Dog Squad, Recruitment Unit, Police Air Unit, 2018 Commonwealth Games Group and a number of police stations.
Another delegate, Chief Inspector Nicholas Pearson of the Overseas Inspectors' Association, remarked, "It is certainly one of the most fruitful duty visits I have ever attended." He found the initiatives implemented by the Queensland Government and the QPS in enhancing community engagement inspirational and their experience would be of a very good referential value in Hong Kong's context.
Also attending the visit, Chairman of the Junior Police Officers' Association Chan Cho-kwong showed an interest in the development of the uniforms of the QPS, especially the use of utility vests by their frontline officers.
