A Sea Safety Awareness Day was staged by Marine East Division (MEDIV) on July 16 in Sai Kung where waterborne recreational activities are popular during summer.
Divisional Commander of MEDIV Justin Shave, together with local dignitaries led by Chairman of Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee Mr Chan Kuen-kwan, distributed sea safety brochures and souvenirs to visitors at Sai Kung Public Pier and around the town. Senior Police Call members from Wong Tai Sin District and Boy Scouts in Sai Kung also assisted in spreading the messages to the elderly and young ones.
Moreover, menu stands displaying marine safety messages were distributed to restaurant owners whilst copies of a safety advice checklist were given to vessel operators and passengers at the pier.
Meanwhile, Marine West Division (MWDIV) hosted a sea safety seminar for 30 staff members of the Marine Traffic Control Centre and contractors of the Three-Runway System on June 16 with a view to enhancing their awareness of sea safety as well as responses to emergency incidents at sea.
After the delivery of an opening speech by Divisional Commander of MWDIV Clive Walton, Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations) Chan Ching-yin and Commander of Patrol Sub-Unit 3 Lee Man-lai gave talks on maritime industrial safety, crime prevention on vessels and reporting of emergency marine incidents to the Force. The seminar was well received by the participants.
