In view of population growth and increasing policing needs of the Tseung Kwan O community, the Force has upgraded Tseung Kwan O Division (TKODIV) under Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) to Tseung Kwan O District (TKODIST) under Kowloon East (KE) Region from July 11. This marked a milestone in the development of policing work.
In a simple yet solemn Handover Ceremony witnessed by Regional Commander of KE Duncan McCosh on that day, Commander of KTDIST Barry Smith handed over the key of Tseung Kwan O Police Station to Commander of TKODIST Siu Kit-hung to mark a new era.
On July 21, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung and Acting Deputy Commissioners (Operations) Au Chi-kwong and Tang Ping-keung, accompanied by Mr McCosh, Mr Siu and Deputy Commander of TKODIST Stephen Handley, inaugurated TKODIST at an opening ceremony. More than 300 guests from the community attended the event. Mr McCosh praised all the colleagues involved for their hard work and expressed confidence that the new formation would provide a high standard of police service to the community. Mr Siu hoped that different sectors of the society would support the policing work of TKODIST so that Tseung Kwan O could maintain a low crime rate.
To foster engagement with youths, TKODIST held a Logo Competition and a Travel Leaflet Competition to strengthen teenagers and students' knowledge about the district, and more importantly a sense of belonging to the district. Mr Siu presented prizes to the winners at the ceremony.
With an establishment of 434 posts, TKODIST comprises District Crime Squad, District Anti-Triad Section and District Intelligence Section to detect complicated crimes, and Police Community Relations Office, Senior Police Call and Junior Police Call to foster community engagement.
