With the assistance of 90 police volunteers, the Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit (FCSV) of the Crime Wing co-ordinated a gathering on June 17 for 140 persons from seven welfare groups serving mentally incapacitated persons (MIPs). The event was jointly organised with the Police Magic Club, Police Judo Club, Police Photography Club and Police Band.

Acting Chief Superintendent (Crime Support) Lee Wai-man highlighted in his opening speech the importance of building mutual understanding and trust between the Force and the MIP community. In this connection, the gathering provided an occasion for some officers to establish a respectful and trustful relationship with MIPs, their family members and social workers in a friendly environment.

The police volunteers who took part in the event came from the Pinnacle Police Volunteers' Team, Police Rope Course Club, the Octans of Marine Police as well as those from both Uniform Branch and crime units.

During the gathering, the police volunteers and the MIP groups put up a variety show together for the first time. Through the performances, the Force members and the MIPs enhanced interaction and got to know the versatile skills of one another. The MIPs were from the Star Family, Wai Ji Christian Service, Caritas Parents Resource Centre, the Grand Alliance of Parents for the Rights of Persons with Special Educational Needs, the Hong Kong Christian Service Chih Ai Parents' Association, The Hong Kong Joint Council of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped and St James' Settlement Rehabilitation Division Family Club.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of the Central Traffic Prosecution Division Lam Chi-ping, Chief Inspector (Crime) of Sham Shui Po District Chong Shing-yat and Police Constable of Task Force Sub-Unit of Chai Wan Division Leung Kin-pui took the opportunity to conduct sharing sessions on road safety, measures for protecting vulnerable witnesses such as MIPs as well as the daily work of patrol officers.
