As a key initiative to elicit support from the local community to the Force, the Mid-year Review of New Territories North (NTN) Region 2017 was held on August 3 to introduce to community leaders the Force's fight crime work in the first half of the year. More than 170 representatives from district organisations, other government departments and public organisations attended a briefing of the review.
Different units of the Region introduced their work on counter-terrorism, the strategy on tackling local traffic problems and the handling of 999 calls. Officers from Tai Po District Crime Squad shared their experience in investigating a case of "Throwing Corrosive Fluid with Intent to do Grievous Bodily Harm". The team earned a compliment by the victim and their families for the empathy displayed and the successful conviction of the defendant while the defendant appreciated the officers' professionalism in handling the case.
Then a village representative spoke on the effectiveness of installing a closed-circuit television system in their village to enhance household security under the Village Watch project.
The guests were happy to see a continued drop in crime rate and highly appreciated the effectiveness of the Force in maintaining law and order. The event had also increased the guests' understanding of police work in the Region.
