The Force achieved a remarkable record of 53 gold, 76 silver and 74 bronze medals in the biennial World Police and Fire Games held in Los Angeles, the United States from August 7 to 16. This set a new record for the number of medals won by the Force, which joined the Games for the 13th time.
A Force delegation of 305 athletes took part in the Games this year, alongside 8 000 competitors from 65 countries and cities. Competing in 28 events, the Force athletes did their utmost to ensure they were in good shape and of indomitable courage at all times. And their efforts paid off in the 10-day sports tournament.
The Force athletes performed extremely well and won gold medals in archery, badminton, bowling, cycling, dragon boat, indoor rowing, karate, judo, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, track and field as well as volleyball.
The Head of the Force delegation, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chiu Wai-yin; the Chairman of the Police Sports Council, Mr Lui Hon-kwok; and the Chairman of the Force World Police and Fire Games Organising Committee, Mr Cheuk Hau-yip, went to the competition venues to cheer on the Force athletes every day, giving them big encouragement and support.
As policing work has never been more complex and more challenging, the Force athletes also took time out to renew acquaintance and make new friends from overseas, projecting the Force's image on a world stage. This kept the Force athletes abreast of time and enabled them to better equip themselves for the challenges ahead.
