Chief Superintendents Chow Yat-ming and Chan Man-tak attended the Senior Managers in Government Programme at the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the United States (US) in August, with the arrangement of the Police College. A total of 62 senior government officials from the US and other regions and countries joined the course.
The three-week programme explored the promotion and application of public administration theories through thematic lectures, group discussions and case studies. Covering topics such as recognising public values, leadership and crisis, managing risk control, negotiation and persuasion skills, policy development and decision science, it offered a platform for the participants to enhance executive leadership skills and to share management experience and corporation strategies.
Mr Chow said that the professors were all experts or scholars in the field of public administration and they shared with the participants their insights on respective topics. On the other hand, Mr Chan considered that the programme was conducive to his personal development and police work. He heard lots of good practices, which could be incorporated into future work plans.
