Acting Deputy Commissioner (Management) Li Kin-fai attended a ceremony held by the India Association Hong Kong on August 15 to mark the 70th anniversary of the independence of India. The Association took the occasion to present the Outstanding Police Officer Award to Senior Inspector Shum Lap-chi from Tsim Sha Tsui Division and Inspector So Tsz-yeung of Yau Tsim District (YTDIST).
Following an in-depth probe, Mr Shum smashed a drug syndicate and seized drugs with a market value of $180,000 after the arrest of a Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) for "Trafficking in a dangerous drug" on April 19. In another robbery case that took place in Tsim Sha Tsui on April 14, Mr So swiftly arrested a suspect after poring over closed-circuit television footages.
Other guests attending the event included Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam, Consul-General of India to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Mr Puneet Agrawal, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Mr Tung Chee Hwa, as well as Commander of YTDIST Kwok Pak-chung and Assistant Commander (Administration) of YTDIST Mohammad Khan.
Towards the end of the ceremony, the Chairman of the Association delivered a plaque to Mr Khan for his contribution to the Force and the NEC community.
