The Airport Police Station held an open day on September 9 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Airport Security Unit (ASU), drawing a turnout of over 3 400 citizens as well as airport partners and students of the Project Growth and Police Mentorship Programme.
Speaking at an opening ceremony, Regional Commander of New Territories South Lui Hon-kwok commended the ASU for their dedication to safeguarding tens of thousands of passengers travelling through the airport daily by working closely with the airport community. Their contribution in ensuring a swift response to emergencies and in countering terrorism was also highly appreciated.
The open day offered a variety of fun-filled activities, including a demonstration by the ASU of their fitness training activities and a tactical exercise, a police dog show and a performance by the Police Band. Besides, there were a show room outlining the history of the ASU; exhibition booths of ASU's firearms, equipment and vehicles; and a photo corner with ASU officers.
Chief Inspector of the ASU Lau Kwun-tang said that the ASU was opened to the public for the first time with an aim to enhancing public understanding of their work. He thanked different Force units for their support for the event.
