This year, Marine East Division (MEDIV) has organised a series of publicity events and enforcement actions to raise public awareness concerning sea safety. In light of the smooth implementation of these initiatives over the summer, MEDIV staged Sai Kung Sea Safety Closing Ceremony earlier to thank the local community for their support.

The officiating guests, including Marine Outer Water District Commander Angus Pullinger, Chairman of Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee Mr Chan Kuen-kwan, Chairman of Sai Kung District Fire Safety Committee Mr Cheung Yat-leung, Chairman of Sai Kung Area Committee Mr Yuen To-shing and Vice-Chairman of Sai Kung Rural Committee Mr Cheung To-shing, attended the event with over 100 guests from the seafaring community.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Divisional Commander of MEDIV Wong Wai-yin outlined a number of educational events and enforcement priorities that MEDIV has implemented in relation to sea safety. He also expressed his appreciation to the seafaring community as well as other government departments concerned for their support in promoting safety at sea.

Apart from presenting appreciation certificates to officers of MEDIV's Sea Safety Working Group as well as 14 community leaders who have offered professional advice on sea safety, MEDIV also invited representatives from Regional Crime Prevention Office of Marine Region, Police Sub-Aqua Club and Diving Unit of the Fire Services Department to give talks on the topics of sea safety and crime prevention for the seafaring community.
