The Eastern District Road Safety Carnival 2017, co-organised by Eastern District (EDIST) and the Traffic and Transport Committee (TTC) of the Eastern District Council (EDC) with the support of the EDC, took place at Aldrich Bay Park in Sai Wan Ho on October 14.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Commander of EDIST Rupert Dover; Chairman and Vice-Chairman of TTC Mr Ngan Chun-lim and Mr Lau Hing-yeung; Assistant District Officer (Eastern) Mr Chui Cheuk-yin; Vice-Chairman of EDC Mr Chiu Chi-keung; Senior Superintendent Ng Lok-chun of Traffic Hong Kong Island Region; Chairman of TTC's Working Group on Public Transport and Road Safety Mr Leung Kwok-hung; Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Eastern District Road Safety Publicity Campaign Committee Dr Liu Kai-ming and Dr Lam Chi-kit; and Deputy Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong and Island Region) Mr Tang Wai-yau.
Mr Dover appointed an artiste, Mr Cheng Sai-ho, as EDIST Road Safety Ambassador. Meanwhile, over 10 local representatives were appointed to the Eastern District Road Safety Publicity Campaign Committee for promoting road safety.
To echo the motto of "Love Yourself, Love Your Family, Be a Smart Pedestrian", the carnival succeeded in disseminating road safety messages to road users through game booths, a variety show and display of police motorcycles.
