Along with officers of Yau Tsim District (YTDIST), Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) students of Project Gemstone served as volunteers during the National Day fireworks display and manned information booths at three locations in Tsim Sha Tsui on October 1.

Regional Commander of Kowloon West Cheuk Hau-yip and Commander of YTDIST Chow Yat-ming visited the booths to lend their support to the volunteers. They encouraged the volunteers to study hard and make requital to society. The volunteers distributed publicity leaflets on crime prevention and traffic arrangements. They also explained to tourists in their proficient languages including Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Nepali and Tagalog.

The volunteer service not only facilitated crowd control in YTDIST, but also offered the NEC students an opportunity to show care for the community and promote communication between officers and members of the public in preventing crime.
