A volunteer group of the Force, the Octans, clinched the seventh Hong Kong Volunteer Award at a prize presentation ceremony on September 28. Co-organised by the Agency for Volunteer Service and a marketing company, the award scheme is a biennial territory-wide campaign which aims to recognise 10 volunteer groups and individuals' contribution and achievements.

The Octans was established by Marine South Division in 2006 with the aid of Chief Inspector Tsang Chiu-hin. Currently, it has some 800 members, including officers and their family members. Based on five core values - Needs, Knowledge, Mutual Understanding, Harmony and Healthy Life, the Octans arranged for their members volunteer services in physical fitness and health events, such as Law Enforcement Torch Run, Run for Peace and "iRun" for Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, as well as volunteer activities building on their professional skills, for example haircutting and wheelchair repair.

The Octans hopes to connect their members with different stakeholders of community in an attempt to foster an inclusive society and develop the members' positive values.
