Officers of the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) C Company (New Territories North) and Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) participated in the Good Shoes Donation Campaign, co-organised by the Hong Kong Caritas and Hong Kong Lasallian Family from October 23 to November 3, to express care for the needy in the world. The shoes collected would be distributed to barefooted Africans to protect their feet against infection.
The PTU C Company volunteered to promote the campaign in major police districts and collected over 400 pairs of second-handed shoes. Superintendent Chan Siu-ming and Chief Inspector Tsang Chiu-fo of the PTU Company hoped that their members would take pride in fulfilling social responsibility and promoting community participation through the activity.
Meanwhile, TMDIST also responded to this meaningful project, with their District Commander Mak Wai-man encouraging colleagues to donate their shoes, either new or used, in a recycling box in Tuen Mun Police Station. Thanks to the fervent responses from officers and civilian staff, over 100 pairs of shoes were collected. All the shoes had been handed over to De La Salle Secondary School, New Territories for passing to those in need in Africa.
