Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island (HKI) Yu Tat-chung presented appointment letters to 93 new members of the Evidence Gathering Teams (EGTs) following a Basic Training Course run by the HKI Regional Public Order Event Investigation Team on November 3.
During the course, representatives from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, Police Public Engagement Office, Police Tactical Unit and Operations Wing of HKI shared their experience in policing and investigating public events to the newly appointed members. Kowloon East and Kowloon West Regions also sent EGT representatives to attend the course for fostering knowledge exchange among Regions.
HKI established 10 EGTs in March 2015 to gather evidence in public events as a means to deter illegal acts of radical protestors in a timely and effective manner. In order to cope with an increase in public events, HKI set up 10 relieving EGTs in October 2016. In the first 10 months of 2017, EGTs were deployed for a total of 46 times and their contribution to policing public events was well recognised.
