The Chief Corporate Development Officer of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, Ms Chong Wai-yan, was invited to give a talk to more than 100 auxiliary and regular officers in the first session of the Management Development Programme on Knowledge Management - Auxiliary Policing at the Auxiliary Police Force Headquarters on September 20.
With over 30 years of experience in corporate communications, Ms Chong explained to the Force attendees the use of adversity quotient (AQ) and artificial intelligence (AI) for tackling challenges in the modern era.
Ms Chong shared her experience in crisis management in an aviation company, covering the tackling of strikes and a shrinking demand for flight services due to the 9/11 attacks and SARS, as well as the provision of support services for Hong Kong people stranded by a nuclear incident in Fukushima. She stressed that corporate communications executives must stand upfront to liaise with the media and to safeguard the company's image. Ms Chong handled all the crises with empathy, a sense of mission, meticulous planning and colleagues' support.
Ms Chong then exchanged views with Acting Superintendent (Auxiliary) Anna Lau and Inspector (Auxiliary) Chen Fuk-lai on her personal development and tips in handling stress. She believed that people who are under heavy work pressure must strike a balance among family, work and interest, as the support from family members and friends is very important. Ms Chong thanked Auxiliary officers for serving the community in their spare time and she would encourage CLP staff to join this meaningful work.
