Forty officers attended a sharing session on ways to communicate with the deaf-mute community under the Western WIKI series, launched by Western District (WDIST) at Western Police Station on October 27.
Two guests, Sign Language Officer Ms Wong Wai-lan and Deaf Ambassador Mr Li Kwok-sing from a registered charity organisation "Silence", were invited to teach simple sign language and demonstrate through a role play activity certain difficulties that deaf-mutes encounter when making a report to the Police. The Silence Sign Language Interpretation App was also introduced to facilitate the attendees in obtaining sign language interpretation services.
The attendees found the sharing session useful in strengthening their communication skills with the deaf-mute and assisting these people in need more effectively.
