As the year of 2017 marked the 40th anniversary of the Junior Police Officers' Association (JPOA), a commemorative dinner was held at Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre on October 27 to celebrate the occasion. Among the honourable guests at the ceremony were Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, JPOA's Principal Honorary Life President Mr C Y Leung, JPOA's Founding President Ms Tam Wai-chu, JPOA's members, retired members, their families, as well as representatives of other associations.

Chairman of JPOA Mr Chan Cho-kwong noted in his speech that the JPOA was established 40 years ago with the missions of upholding justice and striving for reasonable benefits and conditions of service for junior police officers. It also acts as an important bridge of communication among the Government, the Force Management and the staff side.

With the joint efforts of former chairmen and former executive committee members and representatives, the JPOA has successfully safeguarded the rights and benefits of its members over the past four decades and their achievements are evident to many members. Mr Chan stressed that the JPOA would continue to stand up to defend the rights of their members, quoting Confucius' saying, "Employ the upright and put aside all the crooked; in this way the crooked can be made to be upright." and the lyrics of a song "Happy and Honest Man" to substantiate his point of view.

Mr Chan believed that "To start a business is difficult, but to keep it going is more difficult." Hence, the JPOA will continue to lobby for improving members' welfare and conditions of service as well as upholding justice for colleagues.
