To cater for the training needs of frontline officers in handling critical incidents, Chief Inspectors Lau Tat-fai and Chan Wai-wah and Senior Inspector Yung Kin-sik attended a course on Initial Critical Incident Response at the Canadian Police College between November 20 and 24.

Joining 17 Canadian police officers in the residential course, the three officers went through a range of thought-provoking activities, including thematic lectures, group discussions and scenario exercises to enhance their abilities in handling emergency and critical incidents. The exercises covered rescuing hostages from armed captors, a barricaded search and breaking into a house.

The three officers reckoned that the training experience was highly valuable because they have been equipped with new skills and theories in handling critical situations. The course also provided an opportunity for them to build a rapport with the Canadian officers and project a professional image of the Hong Kong Police Force.
