The new office of the Social Media Communication Section (SMC) of the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) at the Police Headquarters commenced operation on December 18, with Commissioner Lo Wai-chung and some other senior management officers being invited to visit the facility. Mr Lo also took an up-close look at the photo and video production for the Force's Facebook and other social media platforms.

The SMC office has set up an Innovative Deck that features a common space for brainstorming, meetings and hosting mingling sessions with partners and stakeholders. Since its establishment in 2015, the SMC has gone from strength to strength to stay connected with more than 130 000 Facebook followers, 12 100 Instagram users and many more citizens who have subscribed to the Force's YouTube Channel and downloaded the Hong Kong Police Mobile Application.

Started with only a handful of officers, the SMC has expanded yet keeping the passion in supporting the Force's social media strategy. The SMC would continue its efforts to ensure that the Force's social media platforms are able to cater to the needs of local citizens and the media.
