Director of Management Services (DMS) Kwok Yam-shu led 10 expatriate officers to visit Beijing and Nanjing between November 26 and December 1 to deepen their understanding of the socio-economic and political conditions in Mainland China, and to enhance their knowledge of Mainland policing.
The delegation had meaningful exchanges with officers of the Human Resources Bureau and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office under the Ministry of Public Security; Jiangsu Provincial Public Security Department and Nanjing Public Security Bureau (PSB).
When they visited the People's Public Security University of China in Beijing, they were greeted by the Party Committee Secretary, Mr Fan Jingyu. Superintendents Neil Burnett and Justin Shave took the opportunity to share with local students about their daily tasks, as well as their work and life challenges in Hong Kong. During their courtesy call on Nanjing PSB, the delegates were impressed by the use of technology in handling the public's phone calls on crimes and complaints.
Mr Kwok commented that the trip was fruitful, adding that he was particularly pleased with the delegates' open and frank exchanges with their Mainland counterparts to boost mutual understanding. Another delegate, Chief Superintendent Patrick Laidler, said that all delegates were impressed with the rapid developments taken place in Mainland China, particularly in the areas of innovation and use of technology.
