A thematic workshop was held by Western District (WDIST) on November 15, 2017, to enhance its inspectorate officers' professionalism in handling public events. Commander of WDIST Chan Yee-lai and Commander of Western Division (WDIV) Lee Man-yiu spoke on the trend of public events while WDIST Operation Officer Ng May-mey and Assistant Commander (Operations) of WDIV Chan Shuk-ping explained the responsibilities of inspectorate officers and the statutory powers of the Force in handling such events.

The participants also took part in a tabletop exercise to simulate the issuance of verbal advice and warnings in a confrontational public event. They found the workshop beneficial as it had consolidated their knowledge in exercising police powers to handle public events.
