The third teaching block of a two-year part-time postgraduate programme on the "Master of Studies in Applied Criminology and Police Management" (Cohort 2017) was held in Hong Kong from November 27 to December 8, 2017. This marked a successful collaboration between the Hong Kong Police College and the University of Cambridge for the first year of the Cohort.

The teaching was conducted by an overseas delegation led by Chair of the Cambridge Police Executive Programme at the Institute of Criminology of the University of Cambridge Professor Lawrence Sherman. The delegation comprised two other scholars in applied criminology and police management, Professor Heather Strang and Professor Paul Rock, as well as two former commissioner rank officers from overseas, ex-Chief Constable of Thames Valley in the United Kingdom Dr Peter Neyroud and the first female Assistant Police Commissioner in the Northern Territory Police Force in Australia, Ms Jeanette Kerr. The delegates paid a courtesy call on Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chiu Wai-yin on November 28 to exchange views on various policing issues, especially on police training.

Besides the sharing of academic research on criminology and evidence-based policing, the teaching staff followed Cambridge tradition to hold two formal dinners with the participants of the programme. The then Executive Director (Enforcement and Anti-Money Laundering) of Hong Kong Monetary Authority Ms Meena Datwani and Director of Operations Tang Ping-keung were invited as guest speakers at the dinners on November 29 and December 6 respectively. Ms Datwani talked about the "Emerging Trends of Global Financial Crime Prevention and Anti-money Laundering" while Mr Tang elaborated on the topic of "From Good Leader to Great Leader". The programme had enhanced the participants' professional competences in policing, leadership and management.
