To ensure a high standard of information security of the Force, the Information Systems Wing ran two annual refresher training sessions on information security for more than 500 Force Information Technology Security Officers (FITSOs) and Assistant Force Information Technology Security Officers (AFITSOs) last December.
This marked one of a series of information security awareness programmes to ensure that Force members at all levels could understand their roles and responsibilities in protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Force information.
Superintendent Tse Yan-leung of the Support and Security Division explained that cyber security threats have been growing fast and becoming more sophisticated in recent years. Notwithstanding that the Force has continuously implemented a variety of advanced measures and technical solutions to protect against new cyber threats, Mr Tse stressed that the Force's information security relied heavily on the concerted efforts of all Force members to ensure the safe and proper use of the Force's data, application systems, and information and communication technology equipment.
The training covered a number of topics, including the roles and responsibilities of FITSOs and AFITSOs, an update of Government Security Regulations and information technology security policies, as well as the best practices in safeguarding information security. Experts from the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau were invited to speak on the latest cyber crime trends and attacks, which had affected critical infrastructure and government bodies worldwide. The training sessions have raised the participants' awareness of information security and enriched their knowledge on different types of cyber attacks.
