The Force launched the "One-Arm Push Up Challenge" at Stanley Plaza in Southern District on January 28 to promote the message of caring for animals, raise funds for abandoned and disabled animals, and promote a positive image of elite police units.
Speaking at a kick-off ceremony, Director of Operations Tang Ping-keung said that the Force started the Animal Watch Scheme in October 2011, adopting a four-pronged approach of education, publicity, intelligence gathering and investigation to combat acts of cruelty to animals.
In a bid to promote the scheme, members of the public are invited to do one-arm push up to resemble three-legged animals to arouse public awareness of animal protection. They are welcome to film themselves doing no less than three one-arm push ups in Facebook, and then tag three or more friends through social media to do the same. The participants and their nominated friends, no matter they succeed or not, are encouraged to donate $128 or more to the Society for Abandoned Animals (SAA) in support of this meaningful event.
A closing ceremony of the challenge is scheduled to be held on April 7 when over 250 guests, including Force members and sports elites, will be invited to do one-arm push ups together in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record.
Other officiating guests at the kick-off ceremony were SAA Director Ms Sylvia Ferreira; Commandant of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force Yang Joe-tsi; Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Hiu-tong; Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) (ACP (P)) Siu Chak-yee; Honorary Secretary General of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Mr Wong Man-chiu; Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education of the Hong Kong Baptist University Dr Louie Hung-tak; ex-athlete of Hong Kong Cycling Team Mr Wong Kam-po; and artistes Ms Jessica Hsuan, Ms Kong May-yee and Mr Wong Ho-yin.
