Kowloon City District (KCDIST) urged the travel trade to better manage coaches arrangement and group tours' visit to shops and restaurants. Officers spread the message to over 130 tourist guides at a seminar organised with the Tourism Commission and the Hong Kong Tourism Association on January 28.
With a booming tourism industry, tourist guides lead a large number of mainland tourists to Kowloon City every day. The influx of tourists, however, could give rise to traffic congestion and road obstruction. Thus, KCDIST started running seminars for tourist guides since November 2017 to remind them of their responsibilities as well as the importance of enhancing the law-abiding awareness of tourists. The police seminar has been incorporated in the Continuing Professional Development Scheme for Tourist Guides, which tourist guides must attend before renewing their Pass issued by the Travel Industry Council.
During the seminar in January, Assistant Commissioner for Tourism Mr Lee Sheung-yuen encouraged the participants to adopt good trade practices. Then officers of the Police Community Relations Office and District Traffic Team explained the relevant legislation to the tourist guides and told them to lead tourists to get off/on the coach at designated spots, and to remind tourists to queue up orderly on pavements and follow traffic rules when crossing roads.
