Led by Police Community Relations Officer of Mong Kok District (MKDIST) Wan Hiu-ting, some members of MKDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) and Project Torch attended a sharing session of "Rare Portraits" at the Hong Kong Science Park on February 24. The event was organised by Hong Kong Mucopolysaccharidoses and Rare Genetic Diseases Mutual Aid Group to enhance the participants' knowledge of rare genetic diseases such as Mucopolysaccharidoses.

The event started with the screening of a microfilm on rare genetic diseases, which was filmed and edited by Hong Kong Shue Yan University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The microfilm featured the difficulties faced by two rare disease patients and their families, bringing out a positive happy-go-lucky message. Afterwards, Mucopolysaccharidoses patients and their families mingled with the participants to raise the latter's understanding of rare diseases. The participants learned that good fortune should not be taken for granted, and that they should help people in need, and face adversity with optimism.

In April, MKDIST JPC will join with the Mutual Aid Group to draw a painting on the outer wall of Mong Kok Police Station on the theme of fighting crime to raise public concern for rare genetic diseases.
