The Physical Fitness and Health Management (PHM) Carnival 2018 took place at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on March 18, with the total number of visits by regular and auxiliary officers, civilian staff members and their families reaching 7 318.
Organised by the Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch in conjunction with 49 Police sports and arts clubs, the carnival aimed to encourage the participants to exercise regularly, strengthen their physical and psychological health and maintain sound financial management. A variety of activities were held to cater for the participants' interest. Some participants vied for medals in sports competitions while some joined fun-filled game booths. They also enjoyed performances arranged by the clubs and the Police Dog Unit.
On health care, doctors were invited to give health talks and free health check-up for the participants. In addition, the Psychological Services Group, the Welfare Services Group and the Staff Relations Group ran game booths on positive emotions, good parent-child relationship and prudent financial management respectively. Souvenirs were distributed and snacks were served to the participants.
Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Senior Directorate Group members and Formation Commanders attended the carnival to share the joy with the participants, and presented prizes to winners of tug-of-war, biathlon and the Fitness Training Room Management Excellence Award. A highlight of the day was the presentation of the Force Colours Awards for Sports or Arts by Mr Lo to 41 distinguished officers. Police Constable Tsim Hok-kin was awarded the Watson Cup as the Outstanding Athlete of the Year. New Territories South Regional Headquarters once again clinched the Purdon Shield for their remarkable achievement in sports.
On that day, some local elite athletes and representatives of Police sports clubs were appointed as ambassadors and facilitators respectively under the Elite Athletes Strategic Engagement Scheme. The scheme is organised by the Police Sports Council in collaboration with the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) to foster communication between officers and the athletes. Also attending the appointment ceremony included Honorary Deputy Secretary General of SF&OC Mr Yang Joe-tsi, Executive Director of SF&OC Mr Cheng Kwok-hung, Manager of Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Programme Mr David So and Programme Development Executive of the Sports Legacy Scheme of SF&OC Mr Wong Kam-po.
