Under the arrangement of the Police College, Chief Inspector Hung Hiu-wai and Senior Inspectors So Ka-fai and Kwok Sin-ting attended a training programme, titled "Leadership in Action", at the Queensland Police Service Academy in Brisbane, Australia, between February 19 and March 9.
The training comprised a two-week residential programme and a one-week attachment. It covered conceptual management strategies, staffing skills, budget management, social media strategies, media engagement skills and evidence-based research.
Also participating in the programme were officers from the Queensland Police Service (QPS), the Queensland Corrective Services, the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau. As the participants came from different backgrounds, the programme provided an opportunity for them to share their thoughts and experience on multifarious management issues. The training also inspired them to reflect on their leadership and management practice.
During the attachment, the Force delegates visited several QPS units, including the Mobile Capability Centre, the Disaster Management Unit, the Ethical Standards Command as well as the Innovation Unit, to learn about how they use technology and innovative methods to perform policing work and face up to challenges. The attachment covered several topics, including keeping decision log; using technology for training and managing major incidents, disasters and public events; strategy to enhance professional pride in officers; and professional standards for reporting and recording crimes.
The programme enabled the Force delegates to broaden their horizons, enrich their leadership capabilities and gain insights into the use of technology in policing.
