The Ping Wo Fund under the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) launched a publicity campaign with the Force at Fanling Lutheran Secondary School on March 22 in a bid to prevent illegal gambling in the run-up to 2018 FIFA World Cup. Chief Inspector Lo Chung-wong of the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) participated in the event.
The launching ceremony kicked off a series of publicity activities to be held by both the Force and the HAB to spread the messages of anti-illegal gambling and anti-excessive gambling. It featured live performance by buskers "the Flame" and rock band "ToNick". Two anti-gambling promotional videos were premiered at the ceremony. One of the videos starred a local artiste, Mr Sinn Lap-man, who was appointed by the Ping Wo Fund as the anti-gambling ambassador this year. Also attending the ceremony were representatives from non-governmental organisations, including the Caritas Addicted Gamblers Counselling Centre, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Even Centre, Zion Social Service Yuk Lai Hin Counselling Centre and Sunshine Lutheran Centre of the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service.
On the other hand, the Force will take stringent and intelligence-led enforcement actions to combat illegal gambling activities during the World Cup.
