The 2018 Tug of War International Federation World Indoor Championships took place at Xuzhou Olympic Sports Centre in China from March 8 to 11. The international event was held for the first time in Asia, with the participation of over 20 countries and regions.
This was the first time for Hong Kong to take part in the event. Retired Sergeant Tsang Chak-fai, an advisor to the Hong Kong Police Tug of War Club and Chairman of the Hong Kong Tug of War Association, led 16 local athletes to join the competition. Comprising three members of the Police Tug of War Club, the Hong Kong team ranked sixth, eighth and 10th places in three weight levels respectively.
Mr Tsang envisaged that the police team would endeavour to popularise the tug of war and motivate elite athletes to participate in world-class events. He also congratulated the establishment of the Hong Kong Police Tug of War Club.
