Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Cheng Yiu-mo highlighted the role of supervisory officers and the importance of peer diligence in an Integrity Management (IM) workshop for Superintendents of the Operations Wing (OPS Wing) on March 28.

Delivering an opening address in the workshop, Mr Cheng spoke on the progress that the Force has made in the field of IM. He reminded the participants that supervisory officers play an important role in promoting the concept of IM to their staff. He stressed that they should monitor the integrity of their staff, adding that they should intervene at an early stage if potential issues are identified.

The participants explored the roles and responsibilities of supervisory officers within the IM framework. Apart from promoting IM to officers of all ranks, they were reminded that they need to know their staff members well so that they are able to identify signs of misconduct. Supervisory officers have to take a proactive approach to intervene and offer timely assistance to those in need.

All participants held the view that supervisory officers could play a critical role in preventing a potential issue of integrity from developing, and providing appropriate assistance for their staff. Meanwhile, Mr Cheng also highlighted the concept of peer diligence. He explained that officers should support each other by taking a caring attitude and looking for integrity alerts in their peers.

The workshop was the first in a series of IM workshops conducted within OPS Wing. Subsequently, the participants would deliver workshops in their respective divisions to raise the awareness of other supervisory officers of their significant role within the Force's IM framework. They would also provide officers with tools to fulfill responsibilities, and ensure that all staff are aware of the importance of peer diligence.
