Heads of crime investigation units from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao held their 25th Tripartite Technical Support Meeting in Guangzhou from May 23 to 25 with a view to exchanging their work experience and knowledge.


Led by Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Ho Yuen-ha, the Hong Kong delegation comprised representatives from the Government Laboratory and Forensic Pathologists from the Department of Health. They met with the delegations respectively headed by Director of Criminal Investigation Department of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department (GD PSD) Mr Zhang Rui, and Assistant to Commissioner-General of Macao Unitary Police Service Mr Mui San-meng.


The Guangdong authority invited three senior officials, namely Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation Bureau of Ministry of Public Security (MPS) Mr Sun Jinfeng, Deputy Director of Forensic Evidence Identification Centre of MPS Mr Wang Guiqiang and Deputy Director of GD PSD Mr Lin Weixiong, to attend the meeting. Mr Wang gave an inspiring presentation on "Modern Application of Forensic Technique in Criminal Investigation".


Meanwhile, the delegates from the three places presented the results of "Inter-laboratory Proficiency Test" conducted in March and April regarding fingerprints, shooting residues, cartridge marks, shoeprints and handwritten signature, as well as the fruitful discussion in the "Post Blast Investigation Workshop" in Dongguan in mid-April. In addition, the delegates conducted in-depth discussion on fingerprint examination, firearms examination, police dog training, general forensic examination and forensic pathology. Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau in Hong Kong also shared their experience in defusing World War II-era bombs in urban area.


Mr Zhang expressed sincere gratitude to the Hong Kong and Macao counterparts for their participation and their constructive suggestions in the field of examination techniques, professional skills and technical competence. He commented that the continuous advancement in technical skills and the close partnership of the three places have raised the expertise of the forensic practitioners over the years.
