Head of Group Safety and Security at Cathay Pacific Airways Mr Andeon Siu presented an appreciation letter and a pennant to Chief Superintendent Tsang Ching-fo and officers of the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) on June 5. He commended the officers for their devotion to duty and professionalism in fighting a cross-boundary syndicate.
In mid-2017, Team A of the Counterfeit and Forgery Section of CCB mounted an intelligence-led operation, targeting a Malaysia-based syndicate which used counterfeit credit cards to buy duty-free items on international flights. On October 3, CCB conducted an operation codenamed "WISDOMSTAR" at the Hong Kong International Airport with the assistance of safety and security officers of the airline company. A 34-year-old Malaysian, who travelled from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong for transit, was arrested, and 12 counterfeit credit cards were seized.
Upon thorough investigation, CCB found that the arrestee was involved in 13 similar cases. He was charged with three counts of conspiracy to use false instrument. The case had been referred to the District Court for trial.
