Kowloon East (KE) Region staged the Happy Teen Band and Singing Competition with the KE Happy Teen Committee, the Joyous Foundation and the HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No 3 Secondary School on June 30 at the school in Tseung Kwan O. The competition was held for the second year in a row.
Regional Commander (RC) of KE Cheung Ching officiated at the opening ceremony. The event started with a joint performance by the Police Band and a student from the host school, followed by a creative rap by two non-ethnic Chinese students. Members of the "Operation Breakthrough" also staged a hip-hop dance performance.
All primary and secondary schools in KE Region were invited to enter the competition. Out of 32 entrants in the primary school singing contest, 12 were selected for the final while eight out of 12 were selected for the secondary school band contest. The winners of the two categories went to the Good Hope Primary School cum Kindergarten and CCC Kei Chi Secondary School respectively. RC KE congratulated all participants on their efforts and appreciated their musical talents. She took the opportunity to disseminate anti-crime message and remind students not to fall prey to summer job traps.
KE launched the "Happy TEEN" Youth Programme last year to strengthen communication between the Police and young people and to help young people develop positive thinking. The programme covered a Music Day, a Sports Day and an Open Day.
