An award presentation ceremony of the fourth Force Research Award Scheme (FRAS) was held at the Police Headquarters on May 30, with Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chiu Wai-yin as the officiating guest. Fourteen awards were presented to 13 authors of eight research papers in recognition of their high quality evidence-based research and contributions to practical policing.

Three finalists presented their research findings at the ceremony to compete for the Best Presentation Award. Meanwhile, Honorary Visiting Fellow Professor Lawrence Sherman from the University of Cambridge and Mr Tony Alderman of the Australian Federal Police gave a keynote speech on "Social science research for law enforcement: applying historical linguistic data to modern forensics".

The fourth FRAS was launched in September 2017 with the theme of "Global Policing". It aimed at encouraging and recognising research efforts within the Force and enhancing Force members' research capabilities. The response has been overwhelming, with over 90 officers at the ranks from Police Constable to Assistant Commissioner or civilian equivalent as well as police interns submitting 33 research papers.

Honorary College Advisors, who are academics, professionals and retired senior officers, have picked eight winning entries after rounds of adjudication. A list of the awardees is shown in the table below.
