To enhance readers' resilience and well being, the Psychological Services Group (PSG) outlined in this issue three character strengths under the virtue of Humanity.
Humanity represents the caring behaviour and attitudes one demonstrates when connecting with others. People with this disposition are friendly and willing to take care of their family, friends or colleagues. The character strengths that reflect the virtue of Humanity are Love, Kindness and Social intelligence.
Love
Love exists in interpersonal relationships, including family relationship, romantic relationship and friendship. It is marked with support, comfort and acceptance. Love is a strong positive feeling, commitment, and even sacrifice.
Kindness
Kindness is the pervasive tendency to be nice to other people, as shown through being compassionate and concerned about other's welfare, to take care of them, or to do good deeds even to strangers.
Social Intelligence
People with Social Intelligence have insights into different social situations, can make appropriate interpersonal judgement and form an accurate impression of others, thus behave or respond accordingly.
A full version of this article, with suggestions on how officers can apply their character strengths in their daily life, will be uploaded to the Police Intranet (POINT) and the PSG website.
