To mark the first anniversary of Project TORCH and the extension of the project to Lung Kong World Federation School Limited Lau Wong Fat Secondary School, Mong Kok District (MKDIST) held a launching ceremony of the project at the school on June 23.

The project, targeting Junior Police Call members and secondary school students, aims to enhance the youth participants' understanding of police work and pass on the Force's core values to the new generation. Officers would give support to those participants aspiring to become police officers.

MKDIST Commander Kerry Carew and principal of the school Ms Ho Ka-chun, together with other officiating guests, commenced the launching ceremony by lighting torches at the cauldron. Six serving officers, who were former participants of the project, took a run with the torches. Then they passed the torches to new participants to encourage them to carry forward the cause and forge ahead into the future.

Other activities in the ceremony included a dragon dance by students of the school and a performance by the Police Dog Unit. MKDIST will organise a series of training and activities to equip the participants to apply for police job.

Project TORCH was launched in May last year. SKH All Saints' Middle School was invited to join a pilot scheme of the project, which proved a great success.
