Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Police College Chan Man-tak led a four-member delegation to Guangzhou from July 15 to 18 to attend the first preparatory meeting of the 13th Symposium on Police Studies of the Straits cum Hong Kong and Macao.

The Hong Kong delegates met with representatives from the Mainland, Macao and Taiwan to work out the framework and other details of the event, including the date, location and theme of the symposium, the deadline for submission of papers and the size of the delegation from each jurisdiction. The symposium is scheduled to be held in Nanjing in early December under the theme of "New Situations of Security Governance and Deepening of Cross-boundary Policing Co-operation".

The Hong Kong delegates also took the opportunity to visit Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department and Forensic Science Institute of Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau.
