A total of 175 Junior Police Call (JPC) members were commended for their outstanding performance at the Bronze Award Presentation Ceremony 2018 of the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) held by Hong Kong Police Operating Authority (POA) on July 21.
They received bronze award certificates from Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lau Yip-shing, Director of Operations Tang Ping-keung, the JPC Central Advisory Board (CAB) Chairperson cum Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Hiu-tong, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of HKAYP Award Council Mr Lo Yan-lai and Mr Kwok Wing-leung at the Police Sports and Recreation Club. Other participants included senior officers, members of HKAYP Award Council and JPC CAB, representatives of District Police Community Relations Offices, and POA Instructors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lau Yip-shing said that the Force has organised HKAYP activities since 1973 in a bid to nurture young people to be youth leaders. The award scheme inspires young people to make good use of their leisure time to develop their potentials, achieve their personal goals and serve the community.
This year, the POA introduced a number of new activities, such as canoeing, cycling, and wilderness exploration training courses, for the participants. In addition, JPC members awarded with HKAYP could attend an expedition instructor course to assist the Force in arranging training activities for junior JPC participants.
The prize presentation ceremony also featured a sharing session by a gold awardee, Inspector Chu Yuen-tim of Sau Mau Ping Division, and music and hip-hop dance performance by Yuen Long District JPC members.
