A record number of 400 mentees joined the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) 2018/19. On August 5, a PMP Summer Day Camp was held at the Police College, attracting a record-breaking 300-plus mentors and mentees. Head Mentor cum Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Siu Chak-yee also took part in the event.

With the theme of "ASPIRE to Inspire", the day camp aimed at enhancing the mentees' leadership abilities, resilience, communication skills and team spirit. Speaking to the mentees in the event, Mr Siu hoped that the day camp could inspire them to develop a positive attitude towards life and to strive for the best.

The mentees met their fellows, who share the same vision, from other universities. Not only did the mentees compete in physical fitness challenges, but they also participated in leadership and role-play exercises. These activities enhanced their understanding of the challenges and pressure faced by police officers, and helped them to plan for their future.

Furthermore, the mentees attended a sharing session, at which 11 Probationary Inspectors who were former mentees of PMP shared their experience in the recruitment process as well as their ups and downs in training. The mentors also chatted with the mentees to get a deeper understanding of their expectations of PMP so as to fine-tune the programme to better meet the mentees' needs.

As the PMP Job Attachment Programme will soon come to a close, the mentees will submit a report about their internship experience. The top three mentees will be invited to present their report in an award presentation ceremony in October.
