The Recruitment Division organised a series of summer activities under Project GROWTH this year to enhance communication between mentors and mentees as well as the mentees' understanding of the Force.
A Job Shadowing Programme was held in August to let the mentees experience different aspects of police work. The mentees attended a one-day attachment to police units, namely Airport District, Emergency Unit of Kowloon West, Police Dog Unit, Police Band, Police Public Relations Branch, Railway District, Sai Kung Division, Traffic Kowloon East and Yau Tsim District. Officers explained to the mentees the structure of their units and their duties, and the mentees were given opportunities to assist in police work. The programme helped to arouse the mentees' interest in joining the Force.
Another highlight of the activities was the Project GROWTH Summer Day Camp which was held in the Police College on July 22. The event aimed at fostering a strong mentor-mentee relationship, developing the mentees' personal skills and physical abilities and enhancing their understanding of the Force. Over 100 mentors and mentees participated in physical fitness challenges, a team building game, a role-play exercise and leadership training.
Earlier on July 4, the mentees visited the Stanley and Ma Hang Prisons, at which officers of the Correctional Services Department gave a talk on the prison facilities and the lives of inmates. The mentees learned more about the processes of arrest, trial, conviction, imprisonment, correctional training and release. This increased their understanding of the criminal justice system and correctional work in Hong Kong.
