Three Regions arranged teenagers to visit correctional institutions in August under the Rehabilitation Pioneer Project of the Correctional Services Department (CSD). Through experience sharing by persons in custody, the Police and the CSD hoped to encourage the young visitors to lead a law-abiding and drug-free life, and support offender rehabilitation.

The Juvenile Protection Section (JPS) of Hong Kong Island brought a group of juveniles to visit Cape Collinson Correctional Institution on August 17. The visit aimed at guiding the juveniles, who were under the guidance of JPS, The Salvation Army Wan Tsui Home for Boys or Shing Tak Centre of the Society of Boys' Centres, to develop positive values towards life and become law-abiding citizens. The juvenile visitors learned about the facilities of the institution and the lives of prisoners. In talking to some inmates, the visitors came to realise the detrimental consequences of committing crime. Meanwhile, some CSD officers explained to the visitors the objectives and activities of the Rehabilitation Pioneer Project, rehabilitation services and the criminal justice system.

On August 16, the JPS of Kowloon West, along with Presidents and members of the Kowloon West Youth-Care Committee, arranged a guided tour for some youngsters to Lo Wu Correctional Institution. The young visitors toured the correctional facilities to have a glimpse of life behind prison bars. Some offenders talked about their path to rehabilitation and shared with the visitors the consequences of committing crime. Some CSD officers outlined their work and explained the criminal justice system.

Meanwhile, the JPS of New Territories North (NTN) led 27 participants of "Project Skyrunner", cautioned under the Police Superintendent's Discretion Scheme, to join "The Reflective Path", a commmunity education programme under the Rehabilitation Pioneer Project, at Ma Hang Prison on August 1. The young visitors attended a role-play hearing of a crime case in a mock court and learned about the process of imprisonment and prison life. They also met with inmates in a sharing session, in which they reflected on the high price one had to pay for committing crime.
