The Major Events Planning Division (MEPDIV) of the Major Incidents Bureau conducted the first "Event Management Office Course" from September 26 to 28 for 32 members of the newly-established Event Management Offices (EMOs).
The course aimed at enhancing EMO officers' professional knowledge and competence so that they would provide better support to their District Management in public event risk assessment as well as planning, co-ordinating and commanding related policing operations.
MEPDIV delivered lectures and sharing sessions to increase the participants' understanding of relevant laws, Force guidelines, Headquarters Orders, Police command structures, command and control, and logistical support about policing public events. The training also enhanced the participants' skills in engaging with organisers and internal and external stakeholders of public events. In addition, MEPDIV invited guest lecturers from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, the Police Public Engagement Office and the Police Tactical Unit to share their experience in policing public events.
Frontline Junior Police Officers from EMOs and Inspectors/Senior Inspectors commanding EMOs shared their work experience to foster peer support and to enhance partnership with MEPDIV.
At the end of the course, Acting Assistant Commissioner (Operations) David Jordan presented certificates of attendance to all participants. He encouraged them to apply what they have learned in the course and support their District Management in overcoming evolving challenges in policing public events.
