Over 300 students from the Hong Kong Mainland Students and Scholars Association attended an anti-fraud talk at the Police Headquarters on September 22. The seminar was held jointly by the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre of the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB), the Crime Prevention Bureau, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau and Regional Crime Prevention Offices (RCPOs).
Officers explained the modus operandi of telephone scams and online crimes to the students. A professor of The Open University of Hong Kong talked about the psychology of swindlers. Some exhibition booths were set up at the venue. CCB's anti-counterfeit experts taught the students to distinguish fake banknotes while some other officers encouraged the students to download the Hong Kong Police Mobile App and to sign up as CCB's Anti-Deception Ambassadors. Marine officers of the Small Boat Division showcased their equipment in the event.
On the other hand, the RCPO of Hong Kong Island gave crime prevention talks on the orientation days of The University of Hong Kong on August 30, September 21 and October 8. About 500 non-local and local students attended the talks. Apart from raising the students' awareness of the prevalent crimes in Hong Kong, the talks highlighted ways to prevent telephone deception.
