Under the co-ordination of the Marine Police Training School, Chief Inspector Chan Ching-yin led Senior Inspector Ip Hau-foon, one Station Sergeant and nine Sergeants to visit the China Maritime Police Academy in Ningbo City from October 8 to 13. They attended a programme about counter-terrorism emergency response and search and rescue capacity-building with a view to fostering co-operation and exchanges between the Hong Kong Marine Police and the China Coast Guard.

The programme, which was designed for marine police officers, covered maritime policing issues such as maritime law enforcement capability, smuggling prevention and control, counter-terrorism at sea, search and rescue, intelligence-led investigation of crime and handling of marine emergency incidents. The participants benefited a lot from the sharing by maritime law enforcement specialists and professors from the Academy and gained in-depth understanding of the work, establishment and evolution of the China Coast Guard.

During the programme, the delegation also visited an operational base of the China Coast Guard in Shanghai and toured a new type of command patrol vessel. They learned how the China Coast Guard has applied sophisticated technology and deployed weapons in support of frontline operations. The programme not only enabled the delegates to gain insights into the China Coast Guard's capabilities in safeguarding national security, but also enhanced mutual communication and partnership.
