Thirty-five officers joined a charity head-shaving event co-organised by the Small Boat Division (SBDIV) of Marine Region and St Baldrick's Foundation on September 7. The Foundation is a charity that is committed to finding cures for childhood cancers and helping survivors build healthy lives.
Marine Regional Commander Patrick Hodson got the proceedings underway by shaving the head of Senior Superintendent (Operations) of Marine Regional Headquarters Lau King-lun. Before long, the venue was buzzing with the sound of electric hair clippers as the volunteer barbers went dutifully about their task.
The spectators greeted each "shiny new dome" with thunderous applause and hearty laughter. Whilst it was clear that everybody enjoyed the high spirits and camaraderie, the reason for staging the event was never far from people's minds. All those involved were grateful for the opportunity to support such a worthwhile cause.
The participants were able to raise more than $140,000 from sponsorship donations. At the conclusion of the event, a cheque was presented by Mr Hodson to Chairman of the Children's Cancer Foundation Mr Tony Ho.
