Four Police Tactical Units (PTUs) jointly conducted the first Kowloon and New Territories rural anti-crime operation, codenamed "ROLLRIDER", on December 1. The PTU officers conducted high profile patrol on 12 hiking trials to enhance public confidence of rural safety and promote public awareness of hiking safety.

The operation involved over 100 PTU officers from New Territories North Region, New Territories South Region, Kowloon East Region and Kowloon West Region. The officers distributed leaflets about hiking safety tips and emergency response to hikers. They also advised hikers not to hike alone and to avoid going shortcuts. The anti-crime operation will be conducted regularly in hiking seasons.
