Senior Police Call (SPC) held the launching ceremony of "Share the Love - Senior Police Call 2018" at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on November 24 with the aim of showing love and care for the elderly.


Officiating at the ceremony, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung said the activity was one of the highlights of SPC events in the year. He said SPC members would visit the solitary or hidden elderly in 21 Districts and would distribute blessing bags to them on behalf of the Police and the community.


Moreover, six "SPC Fight Crime Vigour" publicity trucks were launched to assist in promoting the event and disseminating the messages of anti-deception and road safety to the elderly community in the Districts.


SPC Community Care Ambassador Ms Sit Ka-yin, SPC Fight Crime Ambassador Mr Woo Fung and artiste Ms Fung So-bo gave a singing performance with SPC members. Two other celebrities, Mr Ha Yu and Ms Lee Sze-kei, performed a drama to remind the audience to beware of deception.


In addition, Professor Hui Sai-chuen of Department of Sports Science and Physical Education at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and sports elite Ms Lisa Cheng gave a demonstration of light stretching exercises. They encouraged senior citizens to do exercises to strengthen their physical fitness so as to continue to serve the community.


Other officiating guests at the ceremony included Executive Director of Charities and Community at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Mr Cheung Leong, Chief Social Work Officer (Elderly) of the Social Welfare Department Ms Woo Mei-hing, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Tang Ping-keung, Director of Operations Siu Chak-yee, Chairman of SPC Central Advisory Board cum Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island Yu Tat-chung, Assistant Commissioner (Support) Lam Hiu-tong, and members of SPC Central Advisory Board Dr Cheng Kam-chung, Mr Lam Kin-hong and Mr Wu Chor-nam. Some 600 SPC members and guests participated in the event.


After the launch of the ceremony, Chief Superintendent of the Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) Tse Chun-chung led officers of PPRB and committee members of the SPC Central Advisory Board to distribute blessing bags to the solitary or hidden elderly in Sau Mau Ping District. Likewise, officers of other Districts would lead SPC members of their respective Districts to visit the solitary or hidden elderly.


The SPC Scheme, rolled out in February 2014, aims at promoting the messages of crime prevention, fight crime, household safety and road safety to the elderly. It also provides a platform for the elderly to participate in meaningful activities as well as serve the community. As at October 31, more than 10 100 senior citizens have joined the SPC Scheme.
